Entry #10 - At Sea
As I visited Kent this weekend (in particular, Beltinge, Ramsgate and Broadstairs) I thought that today's piece had to be influenced by this in some way. I took my camera so wanted to integrate both hand drawn/painted, digitally painted and photographic materials to create an interesting contrast.
The name for the image has been influenced by Simon Armitage's poem of the same name. 'At Sea' is about an argument of sorts and today's piece follows suit somewhat. As commercialism overpowers these once quaint little seaside towns, there is an evergrowing 'argument' between nature (birds, insects etc) and man and his proud carbon foot. However 'nice' and 'pretty' these towns may be, they are not what they once were and the first residents of the towns are now forced into being 'owned' by man.
In terms of how does this link to yesterdays, ants are known for travelling in 'armies' and this is similar to how the starlings featured travel - in large groups. A further similarity is the beautiful nature in which both armies travel and work - ants in their unbelievable strength and workmanship and starlings in their tremendous coordination.
Enjoy.
